Abstract. In the article, the possibility of realising the potential of speech self-expression by 3rd-year students of the field of study "Tourism" in the process of solving professional problem tasks formulated in the form of questions is shown. The author singles out four types of professional problem situations (unethical behaviour of a hotel employee, unexpectedness, contradiction, incomprehensible explanation) and offers the ways to solve them. Professional problem situations were identified by analysing fiction texts. The methods of problem-based professional teaching have been developed; they consist of 3 stages: selection of solutions to a problem task, comparison of solutions to the problem, arguing.
