Abstract. The article considers phraseological units denoting a subject’s intellectual activity by the example of the Russian, English, German and Italian languages. The authors have developed a classification of these units according to the structural-semantic principle, due to which groups of substantive and verbal phraseological units are distinguished. In turn, subgroups naming different types and stages of thinking processes (beginning of thinking process, actual process of thinking, presence / loss of ability to carry out intellectual activity, remembering, forgetting, etc.) are defined among them. In the process of the comparative analysis, the paper pays attention to the semantic and linguistic-cultural features of phraseological units in different languages.
Key words and phrases: фразеология, интеллектуальная деятельность, русский язык, английский язык, немецкий язык, итальянский язык, сопоставительная фразеология, phraseology, intellectual activity, Russian language, English language, German language, Italian language, comparative phraseology
