Abstract. The article considers the possibility of using a short humorous text as a standard illustrating the native English speakers’ verbal behaviour in teaching professional foreign language to students of non-linguistic fields of study. The author gives examples of comic stories from a popular American edition demonstrating different educational functions of the text material.
