PRINCIPLES AND METHODS OF TOPONYMIC RESEARCH

Abstract. The article discusses toponymic research methodology. The leading toponymists’ main approaches to the problem of developping the basic methods and principles of toponymy taking into account the interdisciplinary position of the science are outlined. The analysis of various authors’ conceptions used in the collection and processing of toponymic nomenclature is carried out. In conclusion, the author suggests a system of principles and methods of toponymic research developed on the basis of the leading scientists’ opinions in this field, as well as taking into account the experience of his own studies of the Samara Volga region toponymy.
