Abstract. The problem of the perception of international conflict by its participants is examined with the help of the concrete historical material. The position of British diplomat Ch. Gardinge is analyzed: the evaluation of Anglo-Russian conflict in Persia, the ways of its resolution and the relations with the rival. The question concerning the influence of diplomats on working out and on the implementation of foreign policy decisions is touched upon.
