MASS TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN MIDDLE VOLGA REGION IN THE 1920S-1930S (BY THE MATERIALS OF PROLETARIAN TOURISM AND EXCURSIONS SOCIETY ACTIVITY)

Abstract. The author considers the organizational and agitational activity of Proletarian Tourism and Excursions Society in Middle Volga region, reveals the regional peculiarities of the society structure, the directions and results of its work, analyzes the cultural practices of proletarian tourism and tackles the evolution of a tourist image from the tool of cultural revolution and class struggle at the end of the 1920s to the bearer of the civilizing fundamentals of culture level the propaganda of which began from the middle of the 1930s.
