CHINESE OFFICIALS IMAGES IN RUSSIAN OPINION JOURNALISM IN THE XIXTH - THE BEGINNING OF THE XXTH CENTURY

Abstract. The author presents the characteristics of the most influential and authoritative Chinese officials in the XIXth - the beginning of the XXth century given by Russian publicists on the pages of pre-revolutionary national periodicals. Images of ingenious politicians helped Russian educated readers to imagine not only the specific features of the Chinese administrative system, but also the traditional culture, moral and spiritual values of Chinese people. Describing critical events occurring in foreign countries, journalists set countrymen thinking of what was happening in their own country.
