Abstract. The author considers the social, economic and cultural aspects of South Ossetia autonomous region development as a part of the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic and conducts the analysis of the Georgian authorities' national policy within South Ossetia during the soviet period basing on previously unused sources, including archival ones.
