MEMORY AND HABIT IN DAVID HUME'S PHILOSOPHY

Shevtsov Konstantin Pavlovich
St. Petersburg State University

Abstract. Hume's philosophy is traditionally defined as skepticism, but at the same time it is stated by Hume as the project of the construction of a new science about man and human nature. The principles of empiricism form its basis, but Hume's task is not only to single out such elements as impressions, ideas and the associations of ideas, but also to show the possibility of their interaction. The author shows how this interaction is ascertained by Hume via referring to memory and habit mechanisms.
