HISTORICAL-TYPOLOGICAL FEATURES OFMISSA BREVIS GENRE

Abstract. The author considers the historical-typological features of the genremissa brevis, mentions the difficulty of the historical identification of short masses in native and foreign music studies, shows that the history ofmissa brevis has its roots in the musical art of the Renaissance, determines different reasons of mass reducing of those times, singles out the criteria ofmissa brevis distinguishing it from a traditional mass, and reveals the reasons of short masses existence depending on the forms of the Catholic divine service, church and musical practice.
