SEARCH FOR TRUTH BY PIERRE GASSENDI AND SCHOLASTIC CULTURE OF PHILOSOPHIZING

Abstract. The author presents the criticism of speculation formation in scholastic tradition on the part of the great French philosopher Pierre Gassendi, shows Gassendi's views metamorphosis on the use of Aristotle's philosophical legacy: from the ambiguity of certain statements interpretation with the purpose of sophistical controversy to the search for the method of cognition; and emphasizes philosophical conceptions interpretation points criticized by Gassendi, which did not lose their topicality today both for scientific and everyday cognition.
