NEW APPROACH IN WESTERN HISTORIOGRAPHY OF GERMAN NAVAL POLICY OF THE BEGINNING OF THE XXTH CENTURY

Abstract. The author reveals the changes in the modern western historiography of the German naval policy of the beginning of the XXth century in view of the Norwegian scientist Rolf Hobson's new researches, pays special attention to the analysis of this historian's book, in whole devoted to the problem of naval imperialism, sea power ideology and Tirpitz's strategic plans during 1875-1914, and shows that by his research Hobson tried to reconcile two scientific camps (conservatives and liberals) which for decades have held the discussion on the topic of the German naval construction at the beginning of the XXth century and its influence on international policy.
