LOCAL AIR DEFENSE ACTIVITY IN THE USSR AT THE INITIAL STAGE OF GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR (JUNE 22, 1941 - NOVEMBER 18, 1942)

Abstract. The author reveals the essence and content of local air defense (LAD) activity on front-line cities people and objects protection from enemy air attacks at the initial stage of the Great Patriotic War (June 22, 1941 - November 18, 1942) and the measures on its strengthening taken by the Soviet Union leadership, pays special attention to the order of LAD system, its units and headquarters deployment in the border areas of the country with the beginning of hostilities, discusses revealed drawbacks, and considers the questions of population preparation for air defense, shelters construction and LAD system improvement.
