ENGLISH MISSIONARIES' INFLUENCE ON BLACK ELITE FORMATION IN WESTERN AFRICA: THE SECOND HALF OF THE XIXTH- THE BEGINNING OF THE XXTH CENTURY

Abstract. The author shows that the problem of cultural interaction has remained topical for a long time, mentions that it is important to reveal not only the origins of political, national and religious contradictions, which are often the reasons of armed conflicts between nations, but also the factors that could lead and led to intercultural dialogue, considers the problem of local African intellectuals and European missionaries' interaction, and pays special attention to black elite origin analyzing the views of the most prominent its representatives, whose ideas were subjected to transformation not only under the influence of local traditions, but also European culture and religion.
