Abstract. The author analyzes the research paradigm of the phenomenon of distrust, postulates the choice of the philosophical methodology for its theoretical research, associates the phenomenon complexity and ambiguity with riskogenic and crisis processes in modern society, and substantiates the idea that distrust in general can be considered not so much in negative as in positive terms as it is necessary for effective social existence.
