LANDOWNERSHIP OF SERVICE COSSACKS IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE XVIITH CENTURY: BY THE MATERIALS OF ELETSK DISTRICT

Abstract. The author studies the questions related to the landownership of service Cossacks within Eletsk district in the first half of the XVIIth century, analyzes the data of Razryad (central government agency) and Local Boards giving information on the service landownership of Eletsk Cossacks' different groups, pays attention to local, regimental, belomestnye (tax-exempt) (Mozhaisk, Yaroslavl') and Zadonsk Cossacks, substantiates that it allows creating the reliable picture of a service Cossack's local salary, the real size of his estate and ancestral lands, the structural division of estate, the value of monetary salary, the number of peasants and landless peasants, and shows that the foregoing enables to compare local Cossacks' land situation with children of boyars, as well as to identify common tendencies within Cossack corporation.
