Abstract. The author analyzes the problem of Russia modernization in the first third of the ХХth century in terms of the patterns offered by the major Russian socialist parties - Socialist-Revolutionaries and the Mensheviks, considers the characteristic features and contradictions of the neo-populist and social-democratic doctrines of Russia transformation, the problems of their implementation, and pays special attention to the various estimations of these patterns in modern native and foreign historiography.
