Abstract. The authors conduct the comparative analysis of the categories subculture, counterculture, and anti-system, and in the course of the research conclude that if subculture is an integral part of any culture, counterculture and anti-system are random formations and not always beneficial. Meanwhile anti-system is an attempt to reconstruct the world according to unrealizable syncretic models, and counterculture is an attempt to create new culture basing on other values, not accepted in this society. Bohemian counterculture is a special kind of counterculture, which represents an attempt to escape from the world into sensual pleasures under the pretext of protesting against injustice.
