Abstract. The author considers colour as the element of painting art, where the optical, emotional and spiritual manifestations of colour are interrelated. The birth of impressionist colour system influenced the further development of painting. From that moment the period of searching new colour capabilities and solutions in art begins. Neo-impressionists, fauvists, Tachisme artists embody colour expressive capabilities in their own way.
