RUSSIAN-TURKISH WAR OF 1768-1774 AND PEOPLES OF NORTH-EAST CAUCASUS

Abstract. The author covers the question of the influence of the Russian-Turkish war of 1768-1774 on domestic political situation in North-East Caucasus, shows the attempts of Russia and Turkey to proselytize the peoples of Kabarda, Chechnya and Dagestan during the war, reveals that the Russian Empire, taking into account complex international situation, conducted moderate policy in the region, focusing on the further strengthening and expanding of economic relations with North Caucasian peoples, and concludes that Kuchuk Kainarji peace treaty had great political significance for all peoples of Caucasus, weakening the influence of Turkey on North-East Caucasus peoples.
