WOMEN’S SPACE IN HOUSEHOLD OF TRADITIONAL OSSETIAN FAMILY

Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of women’s household activity types in the traditional Ossetian family. Basing on the analysis of various sources (ethnographic, folkloric) the author considers the full range of work done by women, and divides it into two main types: daily and seasonal. Contrary to the wide-spread in historiography opinion about the Ossetian women’s insignificant participation in household, the article shows the prominent role of women’s work in the accumulation of wealth and the increase of income in the patriarchal family.
