MASKING AND UNMASKING OF DEATH AND DYING THEME BY MEANS OF LANGUAGE

Fedyai Denis Sergeevich
Saratov State Social-Economic University

Abstract. Death and dying are considered in the article mainly from the point of view of colloquial language. The attempt is made to set correspondence between widely known schemes, patterns, habits of speech and various occasions, due to which necessity to say something about death appears. It is asserted that any speech about death and dying ordinarily tends either to the attraction or distraction of particular attention to the subject of the utterance. Relevant lexical units are grouped by the aims and peculiarity of their usage. The inversion of word usage caused by the fear of death theme is shown, and the examples of related speech expressions are given.
Key words and phrases: смерть, умирание, язык, речь, лексическая единица, выражение, высказывание, умерший, живущий, death, dying, language, speech, lexical unit, expression, utterance, dead, living
