BEL CANTO IN ROSSINI, BELLINI AND DONIZETTI’S CREATIVITY

Shcherbinkina Natal'ya L'vovna
Russian University of Dramatic Art (State Institute of Dramatic Art)

Abstract. The author considers the problem of the comprehension of the works of the Italian composers of the XIX th century – Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, who opened a new age of bel canto. The very development of the style is based on the interaction of the composer’s creativity and vocal performance practice. Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti, in spite of a number of similar stylistic features, have their specific ones: the first is a master of ornamental presentation, the second – of cantilena one, the third – of declamatory one. Due to the surge of interest in bel canto in the XXI st century it is necessary to research the correlation of Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti’s vocal notation and the theoretical and performance traditions of the first half of the XIX th century. The modern staging of the operas of the aforementioned composers requires the singers’ most accurate reading of their parts. In this regard, the rethinking of the authors’ creativity style and the revelation of the true performer’s features become topical.
