POLITICAL PARTIES DURING THE FIRST PORTUGUESE REPUBLIC (1910-1926)

Abstract. The author sets the goal to analyze the party system of the First Portuguese Republic that appeared after the revolution of 5 October 1910 and to consider each phase of its development features and the reasons of its disintegration due to the National Revolution in 1926, within the framework of each stage estimates the new tendencies of the party system development and also their influence on the political parties interaction, and comes to the conclusion that the First Portuguese Republic party system was unstable and highly fragmented even with the dominant player in the name of the Democratic Party of Portugal.
