HAYDN’S CLAVIER VARIATIONS: WAY TO BEETHOVEN

Abstract. The author considers Joseph Haydn’s clavier variations that form the origins of piano performance and are an important stage in the genre development, tells that these works as a genre have not been specifically considered, and the parallel "Haydn – Beethoven" is insufficiently revealed in the history of variations genre, mentions that meanwhile Haydn’s clavier variations had a strong influence on Beethoven’s works, and to some extent were the prototypes of his specific variation cycles, presents the classification of Haydn’s clavier variations, and reveals the connection between the dramatic principles of two Viennese classics’ variations.
