EVOLUTION OF BRITISH GOVERNMENT POSITION TOWARDS SARDINIAN KINGDOM AND ITALY SOUTH CONSOLIDATION IN 1859-1860

Abstract. In the article the evolution of the British government position on the issue of Italy South annexation at the key stage of the Italian consolidation that is a little-studied problem in historiography is considered on the basis of archival materials and some published sources. The positions of Lord Palmerston, Lord Russel and the official representative of the United Kingdom in Turin James Hudson are analyzed. This work results supplement the idea about the Italian policy of the British liberal cabinet in the middle of the XIX th century.
