Abstract. The article considers the issue of truth in historical cognition from the point of view of the German philosopher-existentialist, historian, culture expert and publicist Karl Jaspers. The author pays special attention to Jaspers’s understanding of historical truth as unknowable essence, and to the "provability" of historical truth in the scientist’s opinion.
