PROBLEM OF NORMATIVITY IN DISCOURSE OF QUEER THEORY

Abstract. The article deals with Michel Foucault’s conceptions of power and subjection as the theoretical framework of contemporary queer theory. The notions of normativity and heteronormativity in relation to the issue of gender identity in Judith Butler’s philosophy are revealed. The author concludes that identity is a normative ideal supported by culturally intelligible ideas that provide the relations of consistency and integrity between sex, gender, sexual practices and desire.
