Abstract. The article considers the need for applying a new methodology in the study of image that can adequately reflect its complex structure and functioning. The author suggests understanding human image in poststructuralist aspect as the textual reality of modern culture. The comparative analysis of image as "text" and image as "work" is conducted, and the action of "View strategic position" in the space of image technologies is revealed. The scientific novelty of the article is determined by the address to human image as textual formation, which is originally presented not in the form of the ordered system of signs and symbols, but is reproduced in every single act of "reading".
