CHINA IN THE FIRST WORLD WAR: IN SEARCH FOR NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL IDENTITY

Abstract. The article considers the insufficiently explored in the Russian historiography problem of the participation of China in the First World War and its multi-aspect consequences for the country. The author analyzes the external and internal political situation, the factors stimulating the Republic of China for entry into the war, the nature of the activity of the Chinese workers in Europe, the participation of China in Versailles conference of the victorious powers and the reaction of the Chinese public opinion to its results. The paper investigates the multi-aspect consequences of the war for the China and concludes that the First World War played an important role in the transformation of China into the modern state with developed national consciousness.
