Abstract. The article shows the foreign-policy activity of the Ottoman Empire in the north-eastern Caucasus aimed to weaken Russia’s positions in the region. The paper evaluates Russia’s policy and diplomacy intended to advocate its own interests in the Caucasus. The conducted analysis testifies that the strengthening of Russia’s positions in the north-eastern Caucasus after the Caspian campaign did not satisfy the foreign policy objectives of the Ottoman government as well as the supporting West-European powers.
