"HEART" OF "ILIAD" CHARACTERS IN THE LIGHT OF BIBLE

Abstract. The article analyzes the phenomenon of "heart" in Homer’s epic poem "Iliad" from biblical positions. It is shown that "heart" was understood by the ancient Greeks not so much as a physical organ of the body, but as a deep foundation of personality, as a concentration of all the spiritual, emotional and mental powers of man introducing irrational and super-rational motives in his feelings, thoughts and actions. Characters live with passionate heart, not with cold mind and pragmatic calculation. And therein lie their strength and weakness.
