Abstract. In the article on the basis of a wide range of archival sources with the involvement of the collaborationist press the problem of religious revival within the occupied territory of Rostov region during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) is examined. Two centres of the religious life of the region during the occupation are revealed - the towns of Rostov and Taganrog. The relations of bishops Joseph (Chernov) and Nicholas (Amassiysky) with the Germans and their activity on reviving religious life in the region are analyzed. It is found out that for propaganda purposes the German authorities took an active part in the restoration and functioning of the Don churches. The question is brought up about the religiosity of the population during the occupation period.
