Abstract. The article touches on the problems of differentiating the conceptions "technology" and "technique" in monumental-decorative painting. Indeed because of the etymological and phonetic similarity of these two conceptions not only laymen but painters themselves often do not differentiate between their meanings. The author describes the classical technologies of monumental painting and provides available analysis indicating clear difference from the techniques imitating these materials.
