TRANSFORMATION OF "MASS" PHENOMENON: FROM CROWD TO FAULTFINDING USER

Abstract. The article considers the works by Jose Ortega y Gasset, Elias Canetti and Serge Moscovici devoted to the study of the phenomenon of mass of the XX century. The changes of contemporary social reality, which have led to the qualitative changes of mass, are revealed and substantiated. Radically new ways of mass manifestations, peculiar to modern society, are analyzed. A new type of a man of mass (a faultfinding consumer) is revealed, his/her distinctive features and the sources of appearance are determined. The exposition of the topical aspects of the existence of contemporary masses is conducted.
