THANATOLOGICAL GROUNDS OF DEATH PENALTY IN MONTAIGNISM

Abstract. The article reveals the metaphysical grounds of death penalty through the attitude of Montaignism to the phenomenon of death. The author, using value-existential approach, comes to the conclusion that as long as private being is decomposed in any system and personal-existential dimension is not taken into account, the practice of death penalty will act and be applied as a protective mechanism by the system "switching it on" in order to save itself and its harmonious and sustainable existence.
