NOTRE DAME CATHEDRAL IN LAUSANNE: SYMBOLICS OF TIME IN STAINED GLASS "ROSE" WINDOW IN ERA OF HIGH MIDDLE AGES

Tyurikova Yuliya Mikhailovna
Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V. I. Surikov

Abstract. This article considers the "rose" window of Lausanne Cathedral representing the medieval world view centered on God the Creator, and therefore we can talk about the ancient nature of the universe, which is the basis of images. The stained glass "rose" windows of the Cathedral, not studied before in domestic art criticism, are presented in terms of the development of the idea of creation and Cosmos. An attempt is made to show, how the traditional images of "The Labors of the Months" were combined with the pre-Renaissance ones that were innovative at that time. The author carries out a detailed analysis of the plots of the stained glass, as well as a comparison with other similar cycles of the Middle Ages.
