GOVERNMENT OF NINE SIGNORI (1287-1355) IN SIENA: IMAGE OF POWER IN THE PAGES OF URBAN CHRONICLES

Dmitrieva Marina Igorevna
Institute of History of Saint Petersburg State University

Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of the ideas of late medieval Siena citizens about power. The analysis of the texts of four urban chronicles of the XIV - the beginning of the XV century allows judging social and political views of their authors, which form a certain image of power. The researcher draws conclusions about the transformation of the image of the popular government of Nine Signori (1287-1355) from "good" in its contemporary chronicles to "bad" in later ones and emphasizes objective and subjective reasons for this transformation.
