Filonenko Natal'ya Viktorovna
Voronezh State Agricultural University named after Emperor Peter the Great

Abstract. The article basing on archival documents considers the balance of the forces and means of the 4 th Ukrainian Front and the German-Hungarian troops confronting it in 1944 by the beginning and during the Carpathian-Uzhgorod operation of the Soviet troops. The author determines that the enemy had significant forces with low operational reserves by the beginning of the operation. During the offensive operation of the 1 st, 2 nd and 4 th Ukrainian Fronts the German command was compelled to implement numerous transfers of forces and means from one front to another and alternate weakening of certain sections of its front.
