PHILOSOPHY OF THE RUSSIAN ENLIGHTENMENT: TO THE PROBLEM OF INSTITUTIONALITY

Abstract. The article examines the theme of the institutionality of enlightening activity in the context of the history of the Russian philosophy. The paper is written with the use of sociological approach to comprehending philosophical traditions and thus it stands out from the rest of historical-philosophical works. According to the author’s understanding enlightenment is a special direction in the spiritual activity of mankind based on the belief in the transformative power of mind and expressed in translating knowledge, which contributes to the improvement of social relations. It is evident that enlightenment performs quite specific functions in society. That’s why the author tells about the institutionality of enlightenment.
