APPEALS OF HEADS OF THE NOBILITY TO THE RUSSIAN TSAR IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 1820S - THE 1830S

Abstract. In the context of the research of the interaction of power and society in the first third of the XIX century the written appeals of the head of the nobility M. P. Barataev to Emperor Nicholas I are examined in the article. For almost two decades Prince Mikhail Petrovich Barataev was the head of the nobility society of Simbirsk that stood out against the background of other organizations of the top drawer by its solidarity and corporate traditions. Having analyzed the content of the petitions and the reaction to them of ministries and departments the author determines to what extent the supreme power took into consideration the opinion of the subjects while working out the measures of domestic policy.
