NUCLEUS AND PERIPHERY: LOCAL CIVILIZATION AS HYPER-ETHNOS

Abstract. The article discusses the problematic moments of civilization discourse: the futility of opposing unitary-linear and plural-cycle hypotheses, civilization and formation approaches as well as the need for the systematic study of the problem. The author suggests the consideration of the phenomenon "local civilizations" as hyper-ethnic integrity, as well as a new definition of ethnos and hyper-ethnos. The need for the identification of the macro-structural elements of hyper-ethnos - nucleus and periphery - is substantiated.
