AUGUST JANSEN: PUBLIC ACTIVITY AND ITS IMPACT ON ESTONIAN ART AT THE BEGINNING OF THE XX CENTURY

Abstract. In the article the essence of the public activity of the Estonian artist August Jansen, who began his public work in Tallinn in the Education Department, is revealed. He developed and supported Estonian visual arts arranging exhibitions throughout the Soviet Union. Owing to his activity he introduced everyone interested to the achievements of Estonian art, brought it into people’s environment, and increased its role as a part of Estonian national culture. The author focuses on the critical attitude of modern art critics to the work of the artist and public figure August Jansen.
