Orlova Nataliya Vyacheslavovna
Saint Petersburg University of the Humanities and Social Sciences

Abstract. The article discovers the specifics of pictorial technique in the works by the Estonian painter August Jansen. Jansen was a graduate of Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts; his creative work is based on landscapes. Jansen’s works are easy to recognize. The intensive sense of colour, living breath and linear growth in the pictures leave a lasting impression due to the motive and lyrical colour. He was inspired by severe Estonian nature, love for his home and desire to share the beauty of his native land. The painter’s works are characterized by original colouring, linear decorative manner, fine detailing.
