ESCHATOLOGICAL MOTIVE OF JUDGING THE DYING PERSON IN THE OSSETIAN LEGEND ABOUT RUIMON

Abstract. The article is devoted to studying the poorly investigated motive of judging the dying person in the legend about Ruimon, which contains valuable information to reconstruct the Ossetians’ religious and mythological conceptions. Correlations with this motive are identified in Talmudic eschatology, Christianity and Islam. Considering certain elements approaching the Ossetian text with the Talmudic Last Judgement descriptions the author concludes that this motive in the Ossetian legend is a borrowing from Judaic eschatology.
