ELEMENTS OF PANCAKE WEEK CEREMONIAL FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF MYTHOLOGY AND PAGANISM

Abstract. The article analyzes such elements of Pancake Week as memorial ceremonies, celebration of the newly wedded, fires, construction and destruction of a scarecrow, Pancake Week arrival and send-off. They are considered from the perspective of mythology and paganism. The author relies on the methodology of name worship philosophy, which is indicated in philosophy of A. F. Losev and P. A. Florensky. The conclusion is made that there is desacralization of Pancake Week ritual values; only a game component of the holiday is preserved as nostalgia for the being-symbol.
