Abstract. The article studies the origins of sounding elements emergence in the costume of peoples of the world, and in particular in cultures of the Ancient East. Sound semantics is considered in close relation to the formation of value ideas of the society about the world around and the place of a man in it. An attempt is made to trace interrelation of using the sound code in the costume with the definition of peculiar properties of a particular culture, characteristic features of mentality and attitudes of people. Influence of the resulting semantic field on all the spheres of cultural space is shown.
