Abstract. The article is devoted to ascertainment of the basic characteristics of postcards at the end of the XX - the beginning of the XXI century, their role in contemporary culture and tendencies of their artistic form development. Inconsistency between the existing definitions of the term "card" and modern products is revealed. The authors offer their own definition of the term.
