PHANTOM IN THE EYES OF THE SECONDARY PERSONAGES OF THE MUSICAL BY A. L. WEBBER "THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA" IN THE CONTEXT OF CONFLICT OF PERSONALITY AND SOCIETY

Abstract. The article examines the specifics of the main personage perception by the secondary personages of the musical by A. L. Webber "The Phantom of the Opera". The author discovers that the Phantom is perceived in terms of his repellent appearance, which is identified with his internal essence. The secondary personages form the stable stereotype of a monster-killer around the main personage and represent public opinion on the main character. Through attitude to the Phantom the problems of the loneliness and rejection of a human by the society are tackled.
