PROBLEMS OF INDONESIAN COLLABORATION DURING JAPANESE OCCUPATION OF INDONESIA

Abstract. The author analyzes the problems of the Indonesian nationalism of the Japanese occupation period. According to the researcher, Indonesian nationalists were simultaneously collaborators in European interpretation and liberation nationalists in local perception. The paper assumes that Japanese occupation policy was not permanent and consistent and argues that nationalists chose collaboration with the Japanese because they believed in the possibility to acquire independence with outside assistance.
